Morning has Broken

Wow, it is a beautiful morning.  I had the best perch last night, and MaryAlice slept for a good 7 hours straight.  I got to watch the sun rise while it was so very quiet except for the blowing of the horn and the rolling of the car wheels as we made it through New York and Ohio.  We are in Indiana right now.  MaryAlice has some new church friends who just moved to Maine from Indiana, so she was thinking of them this morning.  I can tell the MaryAlice is happy, she is from the midwest and it feels like she is moving towards home.  She is moving slower and is enjoying looking out the window.  We already saw deer, some fun birds and lots of open spaces.  When Margaret and MaryAlice went to breakfast she was talking about the open spaces, we are going to see lots more open spaces, big sky, and vastness.  There is very green grass here, but not any buds on the trees.  We are still in the eastern time zone, but we will redo an entire hour in just a little bit, maybe after the next stop.

We are rolling through Chesterton right now, I don't really know where that is, except I know it is in the state of Indiana.  I just saw a man, who had gotten out of his car to take a picture of our train going by, I love when people get excited about seeing a train.  There are lots of really really big fields of corn and grain, they are not planted yet, but you can almost feel the vibrations of the ground getting ready to burst forth.  The greass is greener here than in Northern Maine, that is for sure.

Being on a train is kind of like suspended animation, you are going somewhere and yet here we are in a little room (Amtrak calls it a roomette) --- Just saw a sign for the Indiana Dunes, they are along Lake Michigan and when MaryAlice was in High School, that is a place that once a year kids went to have a day at the "shore".  The great lakes are not an ocean but they are very big.  We have been going along Lake Erie and now we are very close to Lake Michigan and will be rolling along it as we get closer to Chicago.

You can read more about our journey if you want.  Our train started in Boston and when we got to Albany the train from New York City hooked up with the train from Boston, and now we are a very very long train.  You have to walk though 8 cars to get to the dining room.  I am happily rolling along, you just never know what you will see, I am keeping my eyes wide open and getting ready to arrive in Chicago.  We have around 3 hours, so there will be time to do a little exploring.  I have no more words.  Enjoy your day.

Glad to start Day 2, Bubbles
