Holidays 2024

Wow, it was quite the holiday.  This was the biggest tree (the one pictured above) that I have ever seen in a house, it was beautiful and the celebration was even better.  We had a really good time on Christmas Eve.   I loved watching us drive through Stillwater, and seeing the lights reflecting off the St. Croix River. For those of  you who do not know, Stillwater is the "birthplace" of Minnesota, of course that is the colonizers story but we won't go into all of that because it is not the right day.  I just had to remind myself and you of that and also let you know how beautiful it is there.  This is a place where there are very old houses, not as old as in Maine, but pretty darn old and the ones that are standing are cared for and so beautiful.  It was a good night near Marine on St Croix and we came home full and happy.

Oh my, food, family, stories and fun.  Christmas Day we stayed home and people came to see us, Harlow and Myah got their pictures taken, and we all watched as Harlow opened her presents.  No kidding, Myah worked with her and she is a really good package opener, and she had lots of packages.  Everyone had fun opening gifts and it is very special that everyone waits and watches as one person opens their gifts, and then everyone is smiles and makes fun sounds.  Friends came over and we had lots of food - they had fajita bowls and Sasha's really good guacomle and pico de gallo.

Myah went to work in the afternoon at Woody's in Bayport.  Woody's is a great dive bar and bowling alley and they serve decent food and of course Myah works there when she comes home and that means we had the best service.  Sasha and Jen played darts and we sat at the table and watched it all.  It was a good day.

On Boxing Day we went to Sean and Clodagh's house.  They have one of those really old houses in Stillwater, they are up on the top part of the little city.  We saw some really great decorations on the way to their house.  Boy there were a lot of people there.  Everyone was having a really good time, we are not in Patten or Houlton or Florenceville or Woodstock anymore. There is good down time for us.  I get to be home with Harlow and Hannah when everyone else is off at work or someplace else.

Today is James's last day at work.  He is now going to be retired.  He will probably do something else but right now he is thinking that he will do nothing or whatever he wants.  They are going out to restaurant in St Paul that they love with friends and MaryAlice is going to see a friend from her work before she retired and let the young ones have a really good time.

There are more people that MaryAlice will see, and on Saturday she is going with Sasha and Myah to see the Minnesota Frost.  This will be her first time seeing a professional women's hockey league game, and Minnesota was the Champion in the first inaugural season, and they are in first place right now as well.

I do want to say that the sun has not been out shining since we arrived, and it seems like it may not be seen the entire time we are in Minnesota.  Today is is raining and temperature is 38 degrees and it is going to get even warmer this afternoon.  It is 19 degrees in Patten and AccuWeather says it is sun shining there.  It is going to get in the single digits in Patten tonight and it won't even get to freezing tonight here.  That is good because it would be very icy if it did, and we do not like ice.

I hope everyone is having a good day however you are doing your day from where ever you are today.  I know that holidays can really suck sometimes and I am glad that MaryAlice is having a good one this year.

For those who need a reminder, I just looked at the calendar and it is Friday, so get ready for another weekend.  I know that people who have a weekday and a weekend schedule are all mixed up, but just enjoy it, you are going to have another mixed up week next week.  We are going to get back on the train on Monday at noon, and go south on the Borealis Amtrak train to LaCrosse, WI.  For right now we are very happy to be in Minnesota and we are making our own light shine.  Shine on, why not?
