The vista is somewhat hidden in this driftless land, high up on the ridge. The trees have grown so very tall, that the eastern vista's which used to remind me always of Frank Lloyd Wright and the way his buildings are so horizontal, so is the land here....you can see one horizontal behind another and another, beautiful. I love living in Maine and I do think that this part of the country is my geographical home, not too very far from the Illinois I grew up in but such a different land. The Driftless Land is so very special. I love the cragginess and the rocks and the hills and valley left untouched from the glaciers.
Today the sun was soft, the green so varied and lush. Wisconsin green is green, we are just a few miles from the town of Spring Green and it is not hard to imagine why and how they named that place spring green.
I watched the predawn light and colors in the east this morning from my bed, the lavenders and pinks and baby blues were magical and then the sun burst forth...there has been a sweet breeze all day tempering the hot sun, the clouds mostly covered the skies with a few blue spots amongst the still unmoving clouds.
Tonight there is a crescent "super moon" in the western sky near sunset. I am going to be watching.
Fina is planting in the garden and I am typing my blog. I have chopped the vegetables for stir fry, and there are promises for morel mushrooms later tonight.
These are rhythms I experienced as a young woman, then I left for Madison and college and a new life....such a gift to know that home is there to come back to.
And I have.
It is Thursday, tomorrow is Friday Night Fish Fry in Wisconsin and there is nothing like fish fry in Wisconsin. I am still adventuring and I am so happy to be here, and I am so content in knowing that I will be at my now home in Maine in two weeks and three days. I am not counting, had to look at a calendar.
