No pictures from today, but you could see heat rising off the concrete and the roads while I was doing errands (in a car) and a little walking on foot! They are breaking records seventy years old. People from here have lots of ways that they minimize the magnitude of the heat. In the elevator today, a couple said that it is not so bad at least it cools down at night (that means going into the 70's) and they are not looking forward to when it is 90 degrees at midnight! Others talk about how they cool down, swimming pools, misting fans, etc etc.
For me I am feeling my northern climate self. The heat is more intense in mid-town than it is out in less dense neighborhoods. The streets that have no shade are pretty brutal. It is early evening and I am in for the night. The rental car was dropped off, my package is in the mail going back to Maine, and I did a trial packing, to make sure that I had the space I needed for all my things that are going to Minnesota on Thursday.
Tomorrow I will try out the pool here, it looks beautiful but I have not gone in, but with the third day in a row of 100+ it is just the right thing for cooling down tomorrow. I hope to do a few more light rail stops, maybe starting out early on Wednesday morning might be the best way to beat the heat.
So here I am toasty warm in Arizona, and in my phone calls with folks in Millinocket today hearing about how the day felt like spring. The ice has gone from all the lakes (at least many of them if not all), and people are thinking about planting vegetables and flowers.
In Minnesota it was in the mid 80's today, close to records as well there, but it will be cooling down I think low 70's when I arrive and then back to more normal temperatures high 50's to low 60's for the second and third weeks in May.
It is Monday. My last Monday in Arizona for this trip. Three days and I land in Minnesota. My time away continues and I am looking forward to the plans that I have for Tuesday and Wednesday....and then it is flight time. It is a hot time in Phoenix today.
