Rough life here at the Valley Oasis. This is most definitely a fine way to deal with 100 degree weather. We had a very good tofu scramble for breakfast, spent time on our screens and then got ready for a dip in the pool.
It was a fun time floating and chatting and singing along with the music as we spent more time with inaugural swims in the pool. I have spent time just allowing myself to allow myself deep relaxation, after almost 9 weeks away from home, I find myself amazed that I am able to just enjoy each day. I do miss my peeps back home, and there are events and get togethers and happenings that I wish I was able to be at, but I am somewhere else! And I know that I will be present and active at home from the moment I get back to Aroostook Avenue.
And this trip has often been about people who I have deep love and care for that are not in Millinocket, Maine. I have spanned 5 decades on this trip spending time with women who have been in my life, personally, academically, professionally and most of all deeply. Lots to reflect upon as I float on my foam mattress or splash around in the colorful ring!
When we planned our day we made plans to have pool time and then go see RBG.
So after a rigorous time in the pool, showers, and getting ready to head to Scottsdale and movie theater.
We were all so happy to be heading off to the movies, had a little incident just before leaving when some unidenitified flying insect got inside my pants (liaterally) and bite me several times. It was a sight! And not pleasant! So after some anti-sting support off and disposal of the culprit insect, off we went to Scottsdale!
We were running a little late and Karen was most definitely feeling a little stress, and the Sunday afternoon drivers (which we wondered was a lost breed) seemed to be out in full force as we made our way through street construction, bad driving and a variety of other slow downs. We parked, sprinted our way through the VERY BIG MALL and got to the theater, and found our seats (when you buy tickets online you also select your seats). The movie started about 5 seconds after we sat down, I commended Karen on her "perfect timing"!
I am linking you all with RBG it was a really good movie! I loved this documentary. I think it should be viewed in every classroom, college campus, every community. It is a window into the 50's, 60's, 70's. 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's....it is such a reminder of how precious and new equality is for women. It is a window into the swings and extreme's that can and have and do happen in our democracy. I found that there were times in the movie that I just wanted to weep (i didn't but I still may before I go bed tonight). RBG is a reflection of our great potential, our dreams about forming a more perfect union and how this idea can be so undermined by counter approaches to judiciary and the constitution. I remembered bringing copies of the constitution back to all my staff after a trip to DC, I remembered meeting with county staff and policy leads and talking about forming a more perfect union. It is so precious doing any work that advances that this the United States is a place for all people, that all of us are equal, and that we embrace and support the potential and the abilities of all of our citizens to be fully included. Taking action that breaks down institutional racism and gender inequality. RBG (Ruth Bader Ginsberg) has spent her life brilliantly taking steps that form a more perfect union. And she has done it with such grace, giving us all a blueprint whether the winner or filing the dissenting opinion. I love Ruth Bader Ginsberg, I want her to be able to do her job longer than Trump is president. I hate that the Republicans prevented President Obama from appointing another Supreme Court Justice. Lots got stirred up when I watched RBG. I hope you will watch it too.
So now it is Sunday night (really really late on EST) I am watching TV and drinking Rose' and appreciating each little moment that I have before I move on to my next stop in my adventure. I will be arriving in MN on Thursday in just the right time to go to Luke's lacrosse game. Yeah for me and Luke. Myah is having her community service dinner and I will get to see her when they are finished. A lot of family time immediately upon arrival, but that is Thursday and I have a few more days that I will cherish in Phoenix. Tomorrow is errands, Tuesday drop off rental car and then it is a few more light rail adventures, wine date and supper with Jen and Karen and Jen's family....it will be all good. It is Sunday, my last Sunday in AZ and I am one happy gal, and I am so very glad that Ruth Bader Ginsberg is in the world. Bless Ruth if you are woman, and bless Ruth if you are a man who wants women to have all the opportunities that you have been afforded.
