Squid Ink Pasta Feast and Porch Planning

Today was a full wonderful day - sunshine,  milder weather and lots less wind.  I started the morning meeting with the person who is making the screens and designing the doorways for my screened in porch.  It feels hopeful to be planning for my screen porch.  We talked about design and types of screen and the ways that he has envisioned installing each panel across my very long porch.  Today was not as cold as earlier in the week, but it was cold enough that measuring had to happen with warm up breaks as his fingers got too cold to keep measuring and writing down all the necessary information.  This part of the work can happen in the shop and not outside.  Later the doors and screen panels will be put in place, that will happen when the sun is higher in the sky and the temperature outside will be lots different than today.

In the midst of measuring and figuring my friend Jane Mary arrived for her first visit.  We had been planning our time in Patten for several weeks.  We had planned to make a nice lunch, knit, listen to music and just spend the day however we wanted.

I was thinking about pesto pasta - and when Jane Mary picked out the Black Squid Ink pasta.  This pasta is made by Raven's Nest and once she picked that pasta I decided we needed to have some shellfish with this amazing pasta.
I put on a pot of water for the pasta, and pulled out the lemons, shrimp, clams, olive oil, garlic and lots of spices.   The water boiled and the seafood simmered in the olive oil, lemon and spices!  The smell was scrumptious.    I pulled out some romaine and the hard cheese, tossed the salad and waited for the pasta to get just done!

It was a magical lunch,  I shared some stories of being in Syracuse, Sicily and when I feel in love with Black Squid Ink.  We closed our eyes, imagined being somewhere delightfully warm.  The sun shone brightly in the window.  Classical music played in the background!  All of this was magical for the last day in February in northern Maine.

After lunch we moved back into the kitchen,  Jane Mary washed dishes and enjoyed her "sunbath" as the sun warmed both of our faces helping us to keep imagining we were somewhere that lemons do grow.

As the dishes got done I made dessert smoothies:  pineapple, raspberries, banana's, yogurt and orange juice blended for easy drinking.  Yum.

Then we settled in pulled out knitting and books and and had a wide ranging and fun conversation about our world, our lives, the lives of women, what does it mean to be a peacemaker?

A full day of being present, of being transported, of being hopeful.

It is Thursday.  It is the very LAST day of February.  The sun is higher in the sky and the light warms my face and softens my heart.
