Plans begin to take shape....

Today I joined in on one of the Equality Maine's weekly zoom series.   Mary Bonauto, a Maine treasure and Lawyer at GLAD(Legal Advocates and Defenders)
did a presentation of the two cases that were heard before the Supreme Court last Fall.

Equality Maine is doing weekly Zoom webinars/meetings.  This was the first time that I signed up and actually remembered to get online.   They are short just a half hour or so, and today's was great.  Mary is such a gifted attorney and is able to lay out complex legal frameworks so simply.  I really enjoyed the presentation, and the questions were interesting.  Mary argued the gay marriage case before the Supreme Court - she/we won!  That was 2015, it is a different court today.

It is good to remember that not everything is in "pause", and the decisions on these cases could come down any day.

There is a reason that Mitch McConnell wanted to bring senators back to DC,  he wants to proceed with pushing even more of Trumps nominees to the federal courts.  I can't even go there.   Some day there will be a new day.

There were other developments today,  Luke (who is a High School Senior) will be a part of an awards ceremony on Thursday.  So I will get to zoom in at 3 pm.  I hope that he feels good and appreciated and "awarded" for his hard work.  This is not the senior year he was so much looking forward to having.   His school did today say that they were looking at "alternative" ways to hold graduation ceremonies in the Cathedral in St. Paul in August, they are asking us all to stay tuned.

Myah is being in touch with her friend who lives in Ohio daily about their plans for getting an apartment in Chicago this fall.  She will be living "off campus" for the first time.  I think that regardless of how classes will take place in the fall at Loyola, she is going to move back to Chicago.  She needs to keep being on her own.  So plans are beginning to take place around the possibilities and timing.

Luke does not know for sure when school will start at UC-Irvine in the fall, not before the end of September.  They may have freshman come on campus.  No firm decisions, but possibilities are beginning to merge.

I was supposed to fly out to Minneapolis in two weeks from today.  Not happening.  But I know that at some time plans will get made.   With the possibility of August Graduation for Luke, we might do graduation and my 70th Birthday - that would be a big big treat.  Another way that I am starting to feel something more than a "pause".

The sun has still not let itself be seen.  It is still gray.  There are still clouds.  This will change and it will feel incredibly wonderful.  For right now I am holding on to the ways in which movement is taking place.    The reality is there is an incredibly corona virus - it is not fake - it is real.   The death toll mounts.  The struggles are real, and leaders are leading and taking the safety of people into consideration - lives matter.  Old people's lives matter.  Health care workers lives matter.  Meat packing plant workers lives matter.  We can make plans and decisions that help people to stay safe and won't overwhelm our systems.

It is Tuesday.  It is the 5th of May.  No Cinco de Mayo celebrations here today.   But it was a good day sun or no sun!   I am planning for a little sun tomorrow, hope that plan can come true.
