Coconino National Forest and Just Desserts Cabin

Wow,  what a difference 2 hours make!  We left the valley around noon today.  Had to stop at Sprouts to get stocked up and make sure we had plenty of treats, then back to Cindy's house to pick up the cat, Osa and a few other things, and then we headed North East.

It was a little hazy but that did not matter the drive was beautiful, incredible vistas, lots of cactus, then brush and shrubs, and then the pines - big tall pines and majestic mountains all around!  We went through Payson (elevation 4890), Pine (known for the Randall House) and Strawberry (elevation 5800) then onto Happy Jack (elevation 7493)!

We carried in all the groceries, the suitcases and coolers unloaded and I was in heaven.  For the last few days I have been missing trees.  I love trees, I love walking in the woods and there are only Palm trees in Phoenix,  and Mesquite and Olive trees but not trees like those I love in Maine and Minnesota.  But here are trees, big tall straight Ponderosa Pines.  The Coconino National Forest has the largest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the nation and we are right in the middle of the stand.

About an hour or so after we arrived it began to sprinkle,  any little amount of water is so desperately needed we are in red flag conditions and it is a tinderbox here!  All of a sudden the rain turned to a little snow kind of sleet like and then it was really coming down.  I did post a video on Facebook for my northern friends and family!

It stopped in about 10 minutes and now blue sky and sunshine as we move into early evening.  It is cool her in the 30's quite a change from Phoenix where it will be in the mid nineties for most of the week.

We have a fire going in the fireplace an banana bread baking in the oven,  wine has been opened and it is going to be a wonderful time in the forest.

Not in the Urban Oasis, but here at Just Desserts!

We are getting our Just Desserts and loving it!
