Proud Gramma Day

Today was a busy day in Minnesota,  Luke and his best buddy Max had to leave early this morning for the State Finals of History Day.  Luke and Max did a history board on the Tiananmen Square Uprising.  So off they went to set up,  meet with the judges and then rush off for their LaCrosse game.  They are both sophomores at Cretin-Durham High School in St. Paul and they not only do great History projects but they play Varsity LaCrosse.  Here are a few pictures of Luke:

Luke loves to play Lacrosse.  He gave up hockey,  quit football, and he runs  Cross Country in the fall to increase his  Lacrosse skills.  Not only does he do these things well, but he just seems to have fun.  It is a joy to watch him grow and learn and try so many new things.  He dreams big and works hard.

So as I was sitting, reading and writing this morning the texts were coming, first showing me their History Board,  then lacrosse shots, and then a text that said that the boys were in the FINALS...

That was not in the plan today!  They were going to play their game and go back and pick up the board, but NO here they were in the finals... So it was finish the game, they lost 9-10.  No time to mourn, off to Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota for the presentations!

The Mom's played around with Goldy,  the parents got a little stir crazy and the boys went off with their history teacher to clean up a bit.  A good thing because they got 4th place, yes 4th place in the State History Contest.  The disappointment was that the top 3 winners go to DC for Nationals,  of course this morning that was not on their minds, but as the judging went on and they were still in the group it began to look more possible.  They are happy young men,  the parents are proud and happy and so am I.  There were six of us on texts going back and forth this afternoon, waiting for the results, goofing around and hoping that they would win!

It was a great project,  a complex event in history and they did such a good job researching, learning, telling a story!  (all under the strict rules of the contest).  This Grandmother is very proud, even though I am far away I felt a part of Luke's day.  I don't know where they went to eat and celebrate but I will get more of the story soon, and in less than 2 weeks I can see Luke's medal and hear about his accomplishment.  However,  seeing that there are 12 days between then and now who knows what wonderful other life adventures and accomplishments he will want to share.

Now as the sun gets a little lower in the sky we are going to try the new bocce ball set that I sent to Karen and Jen.  They have a soft artificial grass pad in the backyard, perfect for bocce ball!  It will be in inaugural event!  Here's to accomplishments large and small.
